Liverpool fans react to Piers Morgan's tweet after Kenny Dalglish misses out on knighthood

Many Liverpool supporters - particularly those of a certain age - regard Kenny Dalglish as the best player in the club’s history.Yes, even above Steven Gerrard.Dalglish spent 13 years as a player at Anfield - between 1977 and 1990 - winning a host of major honours along the way.The former Scottish forward won six league titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups, one Super Cup and, of course, three European Cups.He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1983, won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in 1979 and 1983 and finished as the runner-up for the Ballon d’Or in 1983 behind Michel Platini.Dalglish also worked as Liverpool’s player-manager between 1985 and 1991, winning three league titles, two FA Cups, one League Cup and one Super Cup.

Why Liverpool fans will always love Dalglish

But above all those achievements, Liverpool fans will always idolise Dalglish for his own personal response to the tragic Hillsborough Disaster, which claimed the lives of 96 people in April 1989.

He attended many funerals of the victims - including four on one day - and the people of Liverpool will never be able to thank him enough for how he conducted himself during such a difficult time in the city’s history.

Although Dalglish has an MBE to his name, Liverpool fans all believe he should have been awarded a knighthood by now.

They hoped it would finally be his turn this month but Dalglish has once again failed to make the New Year Honours list.

Now, we all know that Piers Morgan isn’t a Liverpool fan, but his tweet about Dalglish following this latest snub has sparked the same reaction from every member of the Anfield faithful who’s read it.

“As for the rest of the #NewYearHonours, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why it's now Sir Nick 'Tuition Fees' Clegg & not Sir Kenny Dalglish, wondrous footballer & man who helped heal a whole city - right?” Morgan tweeted. “Because I'm really struggling to identify a single ****ing one.”
