Liverpool’s new record signing Virgil van Dijk was at Anfield this afternoon to watch his new teammates in action against Leicester City.

The Dutch centre-back, who sealed a £75 million move from Southampton earlier this week, was in the stands as he waits for the transfer to be finalised on January 1.

Van Dijk didn’t need to wait long for the first goal of the match - but unfortunately for Liverpool, it was Leicester’s Jamie Vardy who scored it.

The England striker capitalised on some woeful defending to hand the Foxes a surprise 1-0 lead in the third minute of the game.

Liverpool fans on Twitter then spotted Van Dijk’s reaction to the goal after the camera cut to the Netherlands international.

A shocking goal to concede

And when you watch the goal back, you can see why Van Dijk looked far from unimpressed.

Emre Can lost out in a 50/50 duel with Vicente Iborra, who threaded the ball through to Riyad Mahrez, between Dejan Lovren and Andrew Robertson.

Mahrez then squared the ball to Vardy, who wasn’t picked up by Joel Matip, for a straight-forward tap-in.
