Southend have confirmed winger Damian Scannell will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken metatarsal in Tuesday night's victory against Walsall.

The 24-year-old limped off after 64 minutes of the Shrimpers' 3-0 victory at Roots Hall and is now facing six to eight weeks on the sidelines.

United physio John Stannard told Southend's official website: "Damian won't require surgery. It's not displaced and will heal on its own given time but unfortunately it looks like he won't play again this season. The doctor has put him in a walking boot and it's a case of him now just waiting for his body to repair."
