The 2018 Royal Rumble is just around the corner, which means WrestleMania season is on the horizon as well. It's usually at this time of year which former superstars make their in-ring return to the WWE ahead of The Showcase of the Immortals.

The most common way which some superstars have returned to the WWE at this time of the year is by entering the Royal Rumble match itself. At last year's Royal Rumble, The Undertaker return and made his first in-ring appearance since his WrestleMania 32 match against Shane McMahon.

The year before at the 2016 Royal Rumble, Triple H made his first in-ring appearance since wrestling against Sting at WrestleMania 31. This year's Royal Rumble is expected to have at least one return as well, and one former superstar has teased their possible involvement in the match.

Former Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett has teased a possible return to the WWE via the Royal Rumble in a recent Instagram post, responding to fans complaining about his lack of abs.

Barrett said in his post: "I’d like to be under the sea, in an octopus’s garden in the shade. 🐙
EDIT: To those complaining about my abs, don’t worry they’ll be back by The Rumble 😘"

The former Intercontinental Champion has been known to have a good sense of humor in the past, so there's a good chance he's just teasing fans here with a possible Royal Rumble. However, as we know with the WWE, never say never.

It has been a while since we last saw The Bare Knuckle Brawler in the WWE. The company and the superstar agreed to part ways in May 2016 after the superstar rejected signing a new deal the year before. He worked the duration of his contract and appears to have left WWE on a good note, so a return could very well be possible.

After leaving WWE, Barrett said he would put wrestling on hold in order to focus on his acting career, saying he would be back in the ring when the time is right. Since September, he has been the on-screen general manager of Defiant Wrestling, but he is still yet to make an in-ring return.

Barrett is bound to receive a pop if he does make an appearance at the Royal Rumble, and hopefully, he brings back his Bad News Barrett gimmick as well.
