Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan scored the goals as Liverpool secured a last-gasp 2-1 New Year's Day win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Estonian defender scored his first Premier League goal in the 94th minute to maintain Liverpool's stunning recent form.

Mane had put Jurgen Klopp's side in front with a superb left-footed strike in the 61st minute before some lax defending allowed Johann Gudmundsson to equalise in the 87th minute.

Liverpool had to fight hard to take all three points in tricky conditions at Burnley but the Reds are now unbeaten since the 4-1 defeat at Spurs in October - a run of 15 games in all competitions.

"It was a very difficult game, these fixtures are really difficult to take. We did brilliant, the weather made it so hard, windy, rainy," said Klopp.

"Burnley are doing well, we denied them to do what they usually like to do. It took a while to score and then the next two goals were very similar.

"Did we deserve to win? I don't care. We got the three points."

Klopp reveals who got a standing ovation

The Liverpool players were in good spirits when they returned to the dressing room and Mane - who scored a sensational goal with his weaker foot - was given a special reception by his teammates.

“Sadio is unbelievably important for us," Klopp told reporters.

“In so many moments he is strong, quick, so many things. And in the other moments where it doesn't click, he scores a goal like this and it is like 'wow!'

“He came into the dressing room and the whole team got up and gave him a hand, because they know. He will be back on top.

“He has made steps. We need him, we need him so much for all the things that are coming. I am happy because I had a lot of players with moments where it wasn’t clicking and they never scored. Sadio still scores, and that's really cool!”

Lots of fans were tweeting about Mane's controversial goal celebration but the gesture by his teammates proves he is a popular man in Liverpool's dressing room.
