No one can deny Phil Taylor is the greatest darts player the sport has ever seen. But on Monday night, in the World Darts Championship final, 'The Power' was completely and utterly outclassed by a former electrician who watched last year's final at home on his sofa.Rob Cross has achieved something rather remarkable. He beat Michael van Gerwen - arguably darts' second best ever player - in the semi-finals and then Taylor in the final 7-2.Safe to say no one saw that coming. Cross' accuracy and consistency in the final was staggering and even Taylor seemed to accept defeat as early as being 4-1 down.Ex-darts player Wayne Mardle was full of praise for the debutant, saying: "The way he just goes about his work - and that's what it is to him, it's work."Yes he's had that little bit of luck, but it's what you do with that luck. Tonight was just an absolute... it was a 180 fest."It took a 167, a 153 and a 140 to win it. Sometimes people are grasping for that finish line and they can't quite get there. He was one of those: 'I see it, I'm going to grab it'.

"Before you know it he's got the job done. He won't be a one-time world champion, I'm so sure of that."

Cross said from the outset that he wouldn't let Taylor's impending retirement distract him from the job at hand - and he didn't.

But the 27-year-old deserves huge credit not just for winning, but for the touch of class he showed during the trophy presentation.

In the video below, Cross lifts the trophy and then calls Taylor over to hold it for one last time, to which the crowd went wild. Check it out.

CROSS HANDS THE TROPHY TO TAYLOR

Taylor certainly appreciated the gesture and darts fans soon took to social media to praise Cross for showing so much respect to a legend of the game.
