Manchester United got their first win in four Premier League matches with a crucial victory against Everton on New Years’ Day.United won 2-0 at Goodison Park to lift them back into second - for the time being, at least. In truth, the Red Devils fully deserved the win - especially after dominating the second-half with brilliant goals from Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. It certainly wasn’t an enjoyable day for Everton captain and United legend, Wayne Rooney.United’s record goalscorer played in a deeper role but couldn’t influence the match as Sam Allardyce’s side are now four matches without a win in the league.Rooney couldn’t get near Man of the Match Paul Pogba on the pitch and it seems he didn’t really want to be near him in the tunnel before the game, either. The two players led their respective teams out ahead of the match and football fans noticed the attitudes of both players.Pogba shook hands with plenty of Everton players as he looked around. And the Frenchman kept trying to catch Rooney’s eye to acknowledge his former teammate. But Rooney wasn’t having any of it. He refused to look at Pogba and appeared ‘in the zone’ before walking out onto the pitch. It was something that plenty of supporters tweeted about before kick-off.

Having seen that, you’d think that Pogba and Rooney don’t get on but that isn’t the case.

Rooney was clearly just wanting to focus on the upcoming match, rather than giving his former teammates a warm welcome in the tunnel.

In fact, an incident that occurred last season shows the respect they have for each other. During a Europa League clash against Fenerbahce with the scores at 0-0, United were awarded a penalty.

But Rooney - the regular penalty taker - allowed the club’s record signing to take it - something he was extremely grateful for.

"I told him (Rooney) I wanted to take it and he let me take it," Pogba said after the 4-0 victory last season.

"I am very happy to score that penalty. For a player like him, Wayne Rooney, the captain, just to let me take the penalty, it's a big respect, so I'm very glad for that."
