Preston boss Darren Ferguson admits he is a big admirer of Elliott Ward and would like to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Coventry defender joined North End on loan until the end of the season earlier this week. The 25-year-old centre-half recently spent a month at Doncaster, making six appearances for Sean O'Driscoll's side, and is out of contract with the Sky Blues in the summer and would be available on a Bosman.

Ferguson said: "I've liked Elliott for a while, he played well for Doncaster against us a couple of weeks ago when he was on loan there. He fits the criteria of what I want, he's really competitive, a good size, comfortable on the ball and good in the air. It's a position we need to fill for next season."
