Northampton midfielder Ryan Gilligan has verbally agreed a new deal to stay with the Cobblers next season.

The 23-year-old is the club's longest serving player after moving from Watford's academy in 2005 and has contributed 11 goals this season.

Manager Ian Sampson said: "Ryan has agreed to sign a new contract which is good news. He's scored 11 goals from midfield this season and that is very good going. He's improving all the time and he has got a little bit more composure in front of goal now."

Sampson added: "He's got great energy and you can see that even towards the end of games he is still going strong.

"We are delighted with those who have already agreed for next season and talks with some of the other players are still ongoing."
