Considering Jose Mourinho always seems to know what he wants, it's somewhat bizarre that he has no idea whether he'll make any new signings at Manchester United in January.

Speaking after the recent 2-0 win over Everton, who he was without Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic against, the Portuguese said: "I don't know about transfers.

"In this moment we are in trouble, in two to three weeks' time maybe we recover and we breathe in a different way.

"Can we improve now or do we wait until the summer? I cannot say."

As fans well know, Mourinho recently bemoaned how Pep Guardiola has more money at Manchester City to bring in the best players.

It's a flawed argument, of course, because the United manager has spent close to £300 million on new signings since he took over in the summer of 2016.

Guardiola also took over as City manager 18 months ago and while he's spent almost £100 million more, Mourinho can hardly complain about funds available to him.

Nevertheless, Mourinho is on the lookout for possible additions to his squad and according to The Sun, he's 'desperate' to sign a top talent on loan.

More interestingly still, it's a player Sir Alex Ferguson tried to bring to United in 2012 but failed to do so: Paris Saint-Germain's Lucas Moura.

Six years ago, the late Bob Cass reported that United expected to sign Moura only to lose out to PSG in a £38 million deal.

Well, Mourinho is now looking to finish Fergie's work by signing the Brazil international on loan until the end of the season.

The Sun add that PSG are open to letting Moura, 25, join United but only if Mourinho agrees to a permanent move in the summer.

Oh, and the Parisians also want £40 million.

Moura would bring pace and skill to United's set up and Mourinho recently hinted that he's been monitoring the winger's situation in the French capital.

"What PSG did with Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe - they get two of probably the four best attacking players in the world at the same time," said Mourinho last week.

"And then players like [Angel] Di Maria, [Julian] Draxler, [Javier] Pastore, Lucas [Moura], they are second choices."
