Arsenal narrowly avoided being torn to shreds by British football’s leading pundits after scoring a late equaliser against Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Gunners were seconds away from losing the match when Hector Bellerin smashed the ball past Thibaut Courtois.Arsenal had taken the lead through Jack Wilshere in the 63rd minute but found themselves 2-1 down with just six minutes of normal time remaining thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso. The hapless Alvaro Morata had a chance to win it at the death but fluffed his lines while Davide Zappacosta hit the crossbar moments later.Asked what he’d done if Zappacosta’s effort had gone in, Arsene Wenger joked with reporters after the match that he “would have committed suicide”.

Nobody can believe what Carragher said about Arsenal

But despite the equaliser, Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports after the match, still roasted Arsenal’s defending.

That was fair enough - but it was another comment he made which raised the eyebrows of many football fans on social media.

The Liverpool legend said that, in his opinion, Arsenal’s front three are even better than Manchester City’s.

“Arsenal’s front three are better than Man City’s front three, in terms of [Leroy] Sane, [Raheem] Sterling and [Sergio] Aguero,” Carragher said. “Some people may not agree with that but it’s certainly very close.

“You think of the performance tonight and in all those big games at home.

“But they still get let down by what is behind them. It’s the same thing we’ve been saying for years.

“The defending is so poor and basic.”

To prove Carragher really did say this, here’s the footage…

Nobody on Twitter agrees with Carragher

Now, as you can probably imagine, there’s been a pretty big reaction to Carragher’s comment.

You’ll do well to find too many people who agree with the retired centre-back…

Does he have a point?

But does Carragher have a point?

Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette is, on paper at least, a formidable attacking triumvirate.

Still, Arsenal are currently sixth in the table, 23 points behind league-leaders City.

No wonder nobody seems to agree.
