For the past several months there has been a ton of speculation as to whether or not former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and current SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan will return to the squared circle.

Bryan is one of the biggest WWE Superstars of all time and at the time of his rise had one of the greatest reactions and followings within the WWE Universe. He headlined the 30th WrestleMania in which he competed twice in one night.

First he defeated Triple H to earn his way into the night's main event for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a Triple Threat match against Randy Orton, the then-champion, and Batista who had won the Royal Rumble earlier that year.

Bryan won the match but unfortunately began dealing with issues from concussion-related injuries over the years. He was forced to retire from in-ring competition, but despite getting clearance to compete again from doctors around the country, WWE has yet to clear Bryan themselves.

He has said that he will leave the company when his contract is up to resume his wrestling career if the WWE doesn't clear him. There's a strong possibility he could return Ring Of Honor (ROH) or New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

Bryan noted in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated that if he doesn't wrestle by the time WrestleMania comes around then he probably won't be wrestling for WWE at all (quotes via NoDQ.com):

“I assume that if I don’t wrestle by WrestleMania, I probably won’t be wrestling with WWE at all,” said Bryan. “That’s my assumption.

“It’s not a black and white answer,” said Bryan. “There are a lot of issues with me getting cleared by WWE.

"They have a very strict protocol, which is a good thing, but the timeline of all that happening was not the best for me. It’s an interesting situation that will develop.”
