The United States Championship tournament on SmackDown Live is one of the most interesting storylines in the WWE at the moment, and the final at the Royal Rumble at the end of this month could be very intriguing if reports are to be believed.

Last week on SmackDown, WWE began the tournament with Bobby Roode winning against the former United States Champion Baron Corbin to move on to the next round, while the former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal defeated Tye Dillinger to advance to the second round as well.

Later in the week, WWE announced the superstars that would be participating and filling up the rest of the tournament bracket. The Glorious One will now later face off against either Zack Ryder or Mojo Rawley, depending on who wins their first-round match.

As for The Modern Day Maharaja, he will face Xavier Woods after The New Day member defeated Aiden English in their first-round match on SmackDown this week. The other first-round match between Ryder and Rawley is expected to take place next week when SmackDown is at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Although it is yet to be revealed by the WWE, a report by Cageside Seats has stated which two superstars out of the five remaining in the tournament will be competing in the final at the Royal Rumble on January 28 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for the United States Championship.

Cageside Seats has reported that Bobby Roode vs Jinder Mahal is the expected final of the United States title tournament, with The Glorious One the likely winner and new United States Champion. This would be his title run since joining the main roster back in August last year.

Giving Roode a United States title run is a great idea, and having him win against a former WWE Champion in the final of the tournament will give him some great credibility for the WWE fans that don't know of his work outside the WWE.

The speculated booking for the United States title after the Royal Rumble is quite interesting too, as according to WrestleVotes, there is an idea of doing a WrestleMania X inspired angle with Dolph Ziggler where he returns to wrestle against the winner of the United States Championship tournament for the title in a ladder match.

This means we could see Roode and Ziggler square off once more in the ring, which might not be to everyone's taste considering how their first feud yet, but the stipulation of their match being like the WrestleMania X match between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels should make it an epic final match between the two.
