There's a very good chance Philippe Coutinho will be a Barcelona player by the end of January.

Liverpool managed to keep the Brazilian out of Ernesto Valverde's clutches in the summer, but that hasn't deterred him from making another approach.

It's easy to see why the Blaugrana remain so keen, as this has potentially been the playmaker's best season yet with 12 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

According to widespread reports, Coutinho is going to become one of the most expensive players in history as he will cost between £130-50million, depending on how negotiations pan out over the next few weeks.

It will, at the very least, see him surpass Ousmane Dembele as the La Liga club's record signing.

Despite the Reds' resolution that he isn't for sale, even the very best players have their price. All that remains is for Barcelona to convince Liverpool that they have a good deal - and it appears they've finally found a way to do just that.

The Times report that their latest bid of £142m contains one crucial detail that could sway things in their favour.

Of that fee, £36m is made up of add-ons, but Liverpool initially felt that many of the bonuses were 'unrealistic'. For example, they included Coutinho winning the Ballon d'Or, which it's difficult to imagine is going to happen anytime soon.

Barcelona's new conditions

Instead, the conditions are now much easier for the former Inter Milan man to achieve, as he'll simply have to make a certain number of appearances and win a few trophies along the way.

That's almost guaranteed, isn't it? It just goes to show how much Barcelona want their man, even if he will be cup-tied in the Champions League and won't be able to compete in Europe until next season.

It won't exactly comfort Liverpool fans as it seems a deal is getting closer all the time, but at least they'll be getting a fair chunk of money to reinvest.

Jurgen Klopp has already moved to spend some of it by bringing in £75million centre-back Virgil van Dijk, with RB Leipzig's Naby Keita following him into Anfield this summer.
