Cris Cyborg has understandably been in the headlines all week. She retained her featherweight crown by defeating Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219. She was embroiled in controversy after a photographer from Holm's camp made some unsavoury comments on Instagram and also revealed that she's interested in travelling to Australia to defend her championship title against Megan Anderson.

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION

However, the only name that's being mentioned as a potential challenger is fellow Brazilian and current bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes.

Nunes took the division by storm after defeating Miesha Tate and mauling Ronda Rousey in her return, before picking up another successful defence against Valentina Shevchenko.

UFC president Dana White stirred the pot this week when he revealed that The Lioness vs. Cyborg is the fight to make - but Cyborg doesn't seem to be too interested.

She's claiming that she's tired of competing in super fights against 135lbs fighters, and wants to give the featherweight fighters a fair chance at competing for the championship.

Now, Nunes has broken her silence on the matter.

SUPER FIGHT

Taking to Twitter, Nunes posted: "First of all, I have nothing personal against @criscyborg I do believe it is the fight that everyone wants to see and a fight where we can both leave our marks on this sport."

Cyborg isn't one to stay quiet, but she does have a habit of staying respectful to other fighters - even when Colby Covington started chirping on Instagram in his usual attempt to become Conor McGregor 2.0.

Cyborg responded: "I will fight the #1 contender available with a win at 145 in the last year next. My mark on the sport will be opening doors for all women."

There you have it. Cyborg doesn't feel that fighting 135lbs fighters is her making a mark, as she's always stepped up whenever she's asked and even put her health at risk when making the difficult weight cuts.

Instead, she wants to make a thriving women's featherweight division in the UFC.

Despite that, there's no denying that super fights always interest the fans along with the organisation because of how much money they can generate.

Cyborg has mentioned in the past that the only reason she's not wanting to fight Nunes is because she's a Brazilian champion - and that means Brazil will have one less champion either way.

It makes sense, but you can bet that the longer these two continue to dominate in their divisions, the more pressure will be on them to eventually deliver.
