Diego Simeone's men were getting very frustrated by how much the visitors were getting away with, whereas every Atletico challenge seemed to result in a caution.

However, the second-placed side closed the gap on leaders Barcelona with a 2-0 win, and afterwards, Chelsea fans had their say on their former star striker.

Costa back with a bang

Costa wasn't shy in letting the referee know what he thought during the match, and teammate Jan Oblak had to restrain him as they walked off the pitch at half-time.

Six minutes after picking up a yellow card for elbowing a Getafe player, Costa doubled Atleti's lead with a cool finish, only to be sent off seconds later for celebrating with the crowd.

Atletico held on for a deserved victory and, despite his dismissal, Costa performed well, especially when you consider his lack of football over the past four of five months.

In fact, his eventful display was so good that it got plenty of Chelsea fans talking, who saw him fire the club to the Premier League title last season with an impressive 22 goals.

Chelsea fans react to Costa's display

It's clear that Costa hasn't changed, both in mentality and quality, and the majority of Chelsea supporters on Twitter are claiming that they miss the Brazil-born Spanish international.

They also feel his much more clinical nature make him a better striker than the club's record signing Alvaro Morata, despite his crazy antics.

A few fans were even cracking the joke that the Atletico forward will now "Morata" (synonym for miss) their next match due to his harsh sending off.

Whilst Morata missed several clear chances at Arsenal, Costa could form a lethal partnership with Antoine Griezmann - once he returns from suspension, of course.
