One former UFC champion might have his next fight lined up.

Once his scheduled fight at UFC 219 fell apart just a few days before the event, Jimmie Rivera knew that he wasn’t going to be able to compete.

Despite that fact, it didn’t change the fact that he was chomping at the bit in terms of wanting to get inside of the octagon.

With all of that said, he has a certain fight in mind that he would love to see happen. In the public eye, Rivera has made it known that he is willing to fight former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt.

He recently went on record by stating that he is more than healthy and ready to step back in the octagon after losing the title in the co-main event of UFC 217 to TJ Dillashaw in November.

Rivera has made it clear he’s a willing to fight him (via Twitter):

Garbrandt: “He should of beat me, he had a year to train for me!! Lol 2018 I'm healthy and hungry.”

Rivera: “@Cody_Nolove says he healthy, let’s put a show on for the fans. He wants to defend his spot and I want to take it. @seanshelby @ufc.”

To those who are in the know, understand that it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rivera is pursuing a fight against Garbrandt.

It also makes it more interesting due to the fact that Dillashaw currently tied up as he pursues a champion vs. champion fight with UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

Rivera does have a valid request when you look at his record and circumstances. He is currently in the middle of a 20-fight MMA winning streak and was set to face former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz at the year-end event, but the ex-champ withdrew due to injury.

This led to the UFC attempting to have John Lineker fight him at the event but Lineker also withdrew from the card.

At the time of this writing, Garbrandt has yet to reply to Rivera’s challenge.
