Finally, it's over.

Philippe Coutinho and Liverpool have finally ended one of the most prolonged transfer saga's in recent memory, with the little Brazilian finally making his long-awaited move to Barcelona for £142m.

He will be cup-tied for the Champions League, but it was obvious how much he wanted to get the deal done, with the likelihood being that he will win La Liga in his first few months with the Blaugrana.

It is not the first time one of Liverpool's star men has opted to take the route to Spain, with Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez both doing the same in recent years.

The latter has been one of the finest pieces of business in Barca's modern history, with his £75m fee looking like a real bargain; the Uruguayan is their seventh highest scorer in history.

Suarez's departure from Liverpool was undertaken in much more positive circumstances than Coutinho and this theory is certainly reflected in the two farewell statements issued by the Reds to the players.

SUAREZ'S STATEMENT

Suarez's read: "Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement in relation to the future of Luis Suarez.

"Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

"We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

"Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future."

COUTINHO'S STATEMENT

But for Coutinho, the Brazilian received a much more blunt statement: "Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement regarding the future of Philippe Coutinho.

"Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms.

"The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately."

Ouch, not even a thank you or some well wishes.

His behaviour behind the scenes clearly wasn't great. Coutinho will now have his medical with Barca on Monday before being unveiled at the Nou Camp.
