Liverpool fan favourite Lucas Leiva has taken to social media to defend himself regarding his role in Coutinho's record breaking move to Barcelona.Signed for £142m, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder - who joined Liverpool for just £8.5m in 2012 - was confirmed as a Barca player over the weekend. It's no secret that Coutinho dreamed of joining Barcelona and he is understandably very excited to get to work alongside Leo Messi & Co."I am very happy. I have always said I am living a dream, we are very happy to be here," said Coutinho, as per the Barcelona club website."To be able to play football, win titles, make the fans happy and play with a smile. These are the objectives."It is incredible to know I will be around idols, with players who have such a great history like Leo, Luis, [Andres] Iniesta, [Gerard] Pique, [Sergio] Busquets... all the great players.Coutinho will be ineligible for the Champions League knockout rounds and his former Liverpool teammate gave him some words of encouragement before completing his move."Missing the Champions League means you will be fresh for the World Cup, my friend," Lucas is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail on a FaceTime conversation."It's not ideal, but you have to look at things positively."Some Reds fans on social media were upset at the Lazio midfielder, who is regarded by many as a Liverpool legend.

Lucas responds to a critical fan

One Liverpool fan suggested the 30-year-old defensive midfielder "encouraged" Coutinho to leave Merseyside for Barcelona.

Lucas responded honestly and said that "it is very sad" to receive these kind of accusations.

Patricia deleted her first tweet.

It should have gone without saying but Lucas had to inform his followers that he doesn't make Coutinho's decisions.

Ben Webb was spot on.

Jurgen Klopp must now prepare for life without Coutinho.

The Reds did splash out £75m on Virgil van Dijk last week but may look to bolster their attacking options with the £142m windfall from the sale of Coutinho.

Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez are being heavily linked with a move to Anfield, whilst there are plenty of reports suggesting Klopp is attempting to push forward Naby Keita's arrival from RB Leipzig to January.
