With the NBA's trade deadline approaching next month, one name that continues to be linked with a move is Los Angeles Clippers star DeAndre Jordan.

Despite a recent resurgence, the Clippers are still unlikely to secure a playoff spot this season and reports throughout the year have suggested that they are actively shopping their center.

Jordan will be a free agent in the summer and the franchise sees him as one prized asset it can offload in order to receive some young talent in return and build for the future.

Several teams have been credited with an interest in the All-Star, including the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavs could look to bring in the big man to help improve their defense and add some much-needed rim protection.

According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, any deal for DJ would have to see the franchise offload the contracts of Tristan Thompson ($16.4 million) and Channing Frye ($7.4m) to make it work under the salary cap.

Pluto claims that the Clippers would be happy to acquire the duo but only if they include the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round pick they received from the Boston Celtics in the Kyrie Irving trade.

But this isn't something the Cavaliers are willing to do, per Pluto.

Jordan is making over $22m this season and will earn more than $24m next year if he exercises his player option and remains in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old is enjoying another impressive campaign and could be rewarded with his second consecutive All-Star appearance in February.

He's averaging 11.5 points and a career-high 15.2 rebounds per game and shooting 65.7 percent from the field.

Cleveland ranks number 28 in defensive efficiency and adding one of the league's top defenders should help to improve that.

The Clippers veteran is a two-time All-Defensive First Team selection and his shot-blocking ability is something the Ohio-based outfit is crying out for.

LeBron James currently leads them in blocks at 1.03 per game which shows just how reliant they are on their superstar to do everything on both ends of the floor.

Adding Jordan to a star-studded lineup featuring James, Kevin Love and Isaiah Thomas would significantly strengthen the Wine and Gold and boost their championship hopes even further.

But it's difficult to see how a deal can be done if the Cavs are unwilling to include the Nets pick and that could open the door for other teams to swoop.

The Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Washington Wizards are all believed to be interested and if he lands with any of them, it could alter the landscape in the Eastern Conference come playoff time.
