Andy Baetens and Scott Baker produce terrible finish to a leg during BDO Darts World Champinship

The 41st BDO World Darts Championship is well underway as the second round commences on Wednesday.

The likes of Glen Durrant and Mark McGeeney have already booked their place in the next round whilst some fixtures are yet to conclude.

However, as the opening round draws to a close, one match that has caught the eye already was four-time major tournament winner Andy Baetens’ clash with 23rd seed Scott Baker.

It was the first time either of them had ever entered the competition so it was anyone’s guess as to who would book their place in the second round.

Baetens, who went into the tournament as the 13th seed, finished the day on top claiming a 3-2 victory in what proved to be a very close encounter.

However, the result itself wasn’t the main story to grab the headlines.

That’s because the pair managed to produce one of the worst finishes to a darts leg the sport has ever seen.

It came during the seventh leg with Baetans on top of proceedings with a current score of 40.

However, Baker failed to claim a double 16, reducing his score of 103 to 16.

But his Belgian opponent then failed to strike a double 10 with his tally now at eight.

However, if the leg looked like it couldn’t get any worse, Baker was on hand to clinch a no score when he stepped up again.

Baetens could then only manage to score four to really put a dramatic edge on proceedings before the Brit, who needed a double eight, hit a 16.

His opposing number did round off what proved to be a disastrous leg of darts when he clinched a double two to end the round on top.

Baetens went on to win the tie and claimed an 86.73 which only edged out Baker’s 85.75.

The Belgian will face fourth seed Scott Mitchell in the second round of the tournament.
