The Los Angeles Clippers ended their long losing streak against the Golden State Warriors thanks to a huge performance from Lou Williams on Wednesday night. The veteran poured in a career-high 50 points as he inspired his team to a huge 125-106 victory at Oracle Arena to give the Clippers their first victory over their Pacific Division rivals since 2014.Williams did most of his damage from distance as he connected on 8-of-16 three-pointers on the night and was perfect at the free-throw line draining all 10 of his attempts. Overall, he shot an impressive 16-of-27 from the field. He hit 27 of his points in the third quarter which is a franchise record for Los Angeles. It's also the most points scored by a player in a single quarter this season.

"Obviously 50 is a huge number. It's a great accomplishment," Williams said, per ESPN. "For me, it was more important to get a win, try to close that gap to get back to .500, especially with the injuries, with guys in and out of the lineup, for us to still have that opportunity, to be in the playoff fold. So, I've been playing with confidence for the past month or so now."

The offensive outburst by the 31-year-old overshadowed a historic night for Kevin Durant who became the second youngest player to notch 20,000 career points and ended the game with 40.

"He ordered 50-piece nuggets on us tonight," Durant said. "Lou got it going."

Williams said he knew he was getting hot once he drained a couple of long-range shots in the third period and the Warriors had no answer for him after that.

“Somewhere in that third quarter, I was able to get three 15-foot jumpers in a row,” Williams told ESPN after the game. “I just felt like I could make any shot after that.”

This terrific display caps what has been the best season of the shooting guard's career.

He's averaging 22.9 points, 4.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Clippers and has been the one bright spark in a campaign that has been filled with injuries for the team.

As you would expect, his 50-point night drew many reactions on social media.

This was also the first win in the Bay Area since 2011 for the Clippers who took full advantage of Stephen Curry (ankle) and Klay Thompson (rest) being out of the lineup.

They sit just outside the playoff positions with a 19-21 record but with Williams playing at this level and Blake Griffin back from injury, their hopes of securing a postseason berth are still very much alive.
