Javier Hernandez must have quietly feared the worst when it was announced, back in November, that David Moyes would be replacing Slaven Bilic as West Ham’s new manager. The Mexican striker endured a miserable season under Moyes during his spell with Manchester United and must have been concerned that the Scot would fail to get the best out of him again at the London Stadium.West Ham supporters couldn’t have been more excited when their club announced the £16 million acquisition of the live-wire centre-forward back in the summer. The Hammers’ joint chairman David Sullivan even told reporters that Chicharito might be the best ever player to sign for the club."I think he is potentially the best player who has ever come to the club,” Sullivan told talkSPORT. "In recent years, he is probably the best proven goalscorer we have signed since we have been at the club."He's done it in the Premier League with Manchester United. We were lucky he only had a year left on his contract with his club and that allows you to negotiate a deal."Fast-forward six months and Sullivan’s comments now look utterly ridiculous. In 20 appearances in all competitions, Hernandez has scored just four goals.

West Ham want to sell Chicharito

And now it’s been revealed - per Sky Sports and others - that West Ham will listen to offers for the 29-year-old this month.

The Moyes effect.

What United fans are tweeting

Man United fans, however, will always have a soft spot for Chicharito, who scored goals regularly in his role as ‘super-sub’ under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And following today’s shock news about his future, there are plenty of fans on social media who want Jose Mourinho to make a cheeky bid for the forward.

Why Mourinho might be tempted

So, should United think about re-signing Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer?

Think about it for a second and it actually makes a bit of sense.

Romelu Lukaku has been fairly inconsistent since his £75 million move from Everton in the summer while Marcus Rashford is still cutting his teeth.

Then there’s talk that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has looked a shadow of his former self in recent weeks, will be ditched by the Red Devils because of concerns about his fitness.

Chicharito would surely jump at the chance to return to Old Trafford - and Mourinho, who has previously confessed his admiration for the player, could be forgiven if he felt a little tempted.

The Portuguese coach also said last year: "Man United sold players that I would never sell, bought players that I would never buy.

“I would never sell Di Maria, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck. Never. No chance."
