Now in his fifth season at Anfield, Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet still has plenty of critics among Liverpool supporters. The 29-year-old stopper joined from Sunderland for £9m in 2013 and has made 155 Premier League appearances for Liverpool. He's the first choice ahead of Loris Karius under Jurgen Klopp but the Reds are reportedly hoping to secure the signing of Roma's Allison.Liverpool pocketed a cool £142m from the sale of Philippe Coutinho Barcelona and there are various reports suggesting they will splash the cash on the 25-year-old Brazilian number one.Allison joined Roma from Internacional for £6.6m in 2016 but the Italian club would reportedly want £40m to let him leave.Virgil van Dijk joined from Southampton in a record-breaking £75m deal but BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Liverpool still need to make two more signings.“He [Van Dijk] is an answer – not the answer,” Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They still need a goalkeeper and perhaps another centre-half.”It seems highly unlikely that Klopp will sign another central defender with Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez vying for a spot alongside Van Dijk.

Mignolet interacts with fans on Twitter

The former Sunderland goalkeeper took to social media to engage with fans, urging them to caption a photo involving himself and Daniel Sturridge.

As you might have guessed, Mignolet received quite a lot of stick from Liverpool fans - but he actually responded to one of them.

Zero marks for originality from Mignolet.

“Everyone has an opinion and they’re entitled to that," said Mignolet in December. "With all the social media, people can vent those opinions. You have to accept it, it comes with playing for a club as big as Liverpool.

“I think keepers have always needed to have a thick skin but probably even more so these days.”

Liverpool fans enjoyed Mignolet's response

Only Sturridge, Jordan Henderson and Jon Flanagan have been at the club longer than Mignolet.

“It’s not easy to stay at Liverpool for a long time,” the 29-year-old Belgian said.

“Liverpool Football Club can attract any player, really. To stay here and be the goalkeeper, where there is only position to fill, makes it even harder.

“When I was young if I had thought about playing for Liverpool everyone would have told me that I was nuts."
