Arsenal legend Martin Keown spotted something Alex Iwobi had improved following his disappointing display in the 4-2 FA Cup defeat away at Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old Nigerian midfielder played 90 minutes of Wednesday night's 0-0 draw at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Iwobi has scored one goal in seventeen appearances this season and patience amongst the Arsenal fan base is beginning to wear thin.

The Arsenal academy player is set to be fined for attending a party in the early hours of Saturday morning - and Ian Wright was shocked to see him back in the starting line-up.

"For a youngster to do that says to me that there is something wrong in the dressing room," Wright told The Debate.

"You can't have a youngster feeling like he can do that and still play. Arsene Wenger should have had a stronger stance on this one.

"People laugh at Arsenal and see them as a bit of a joke at the moment. Players don't want to be there, and it feels like everything is losing control at Arsenal."

Keown noticed something about Iwobi v Chelsea

Iwobi has been heavily criticised by Arsenal fans this season but Keown defended him on the Daily Mail.

"The thing that struck me about Iwobi was it looked like he was visibly trying more against Chelsea than he was against Nottingham Forest.

"He was on the periphery against Forest – he was not on his own there but he worked harder at Stamford Bridge."

On Wenger's decision to include Iwobi

Many were questioning Wenger's decision to start Iwobi against Chelsea, following revelations of his late night partying before the Nottingham Forest game.

"The player will be punished if he deserves it, don’t you worry about that," Keown continued.

"Arsene Wenger has picked him because he needed him but he will be left out along the way. Wenger will come for him because the gaffer has an unusual way of dealing with these sorts of things.

"This was a big game, there was pressure, and he probably thought he would only hurt himself if he did not use him. Some have a no nonsense, zero tolerance style to bad behaviour but Wenger doesn’t do that."

Arsenal have won one of their last five fixtures in all competitions and face Bournemouth on Sunday in the Premier League.
