Paul Gascoigne has made a hugely triumphant return to Twitter.

The former England international, widely regarded as one of the most gifted footballers to play for the Three Lions, has had many setbacks following his retirement but he looks healthy once again, which is great to see.

And since being verified on Twitter this week, he’s set about making a huge difference.

Gascoigne revealed on Wednesday that he had given some money to a homeless man, writing: “It’s one of my good deeds, giving something back to society. Feel much better.”

He also donated £1,000 to help a young girl get a new speech machine after it was stolen. Classy stuff.

Football fans of a certain generation will never forget watching Gazza for England, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur and one of his most memorable moments came with *that* goal against Scotland at Euro ’96.

There’s no doubt that Gascoigne, 50, would have some great advice for England’s current players and when it was put to him whether he would travel with Gareth Southgate’s players at the World Cup in Russia, he responded: “I’d do it in a heartbeat.”

Gascoigne even tweeted Floyd Mayweather

Just where is the cheeky Gascoigne that everyone remembers? Well, he’s still about.

On Tuesday, the former midfielder sent a tweet to none other than boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, informing ‘Money’ that “the real GOAT is back”.

“Can anyone get in touch with @FloydMayweather to just let him know the real #TBE #GOAT is back haha #Gazza #GazzasBack Love GAZZA xxx,” he told his 71,000 followers.

Anyone else desperately hoping that Mayweather, who’s currently dealing with UFC star Conor McGregor, responds?

Gascoigne’s problems since he retired from football have been well documented.

He’s battled alcoholism, bulimia, obsessive compulsive disorder and bipolar disorder, and he dropped out of a public speaking tour of Australia, set for January, citing ‘ill health’.

Everyone wants to know Gazza’s story and he’ll always be in high demand.

Perhaps what’s best, though, is a return to football, the game he loves so dearly.
