History will be made later this month.

The expectation is that as soon as this match was announced, fans better get their tickets fast due to the high demand for seats to watch this event.

The Canadian promotion, Destiny Wrestling, announced on social media on Thursday night that WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne will face the new Impact Wrestling World Champion Austin Aries at their upcoming event on January 21st.

This marks the first time that a WWE and TNA Champion are booked to face each other. The promotion sent out the following:

“History will be made as the NEW @IMPACTWRESTLING champion @AustinAries takes on current Destiny & WWE Uk Champion @PeteDunneYxB for the first time EVER! 2 worlds will collide for the biggest indy match in the world already in 2018 LIVE in Toronto next
Sun Jan 21 @BattleArtsMMA.”

For those who may not know about this promotion, SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan has gone on record by stating that he would like to work for the promotion in the event of him not being cleared by WWE to wrestle against and not signing a new contract with the sports entertainment company.

Aries has clearly moved on from the WWE. He signed with the company back in 2016 and last appeared on television in May on 205 Live, had been in a top position in the cruiserweight division prior to his release by WWE. He was a big star on 205 Live on the WWE Network.

He feuded with WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville earlier this year that included a match at WrestleMania 33 in April in Orlando, Florida that aired on the pre-show as well as a classic Submission Match at the Extreme Rules PPV (pay-per-view) event. Unfortunately for Aries, he lost both matches.

Since the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament took place back in early 2017, some WWE fans have sporadically seen some of the talents appear on WWE television.

WWE has used some UK talents for an NXT Takeover match or an episode of NXT but it was never a permanent thing.

During this time, the UK talent were allowed to wrestle for other promotions including PROGRESS. That is about to change. The deal that was in place made it clear that they could take outside bookings as long as it didn’t interfere when WWE needed them.
