There were plenty of dubious Liverpool fans when their club spent £35 million on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on transfer deadline day.

The midfielder wasn’t particularly impressing in an average Arsenal side and supporters didn’t think the midfielder would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s side.

And after a few weeks, those fans looked as though they would be right.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was limited to substitute appearances and, when he did play, he flattered to deceive.

Fast forward a few months, though, and Oxlade-Chamberlain is fast becoming a fan favourite at Anfield - both on and off the pitch.

He’s had an extended run in the first-team and has produced some impressive performances. And his display against Manchester City was probably his best in a Liverpool shirt.

Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring during the 4-3 thriller but it was his performance in the post-match interview that had Liverpool fans talking.

Now, the former Arsenal player was heavily praised for the way he defended Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian was asked about his future last month.

And this time, it was Sadio Mane that was getting defended by his teammate.

Mane also scored during Liverpool’s incredible victory and, after the match, Geoff Shreeves suggested his left-footed strike was somewhat fortuitous.

“Sadio, I think Gary Neville was confused about the technique you used for your goal. How did you pick that spot?,” Shreeves asked.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain wasn’t having any of it.

He butted in, saying: “Hey, don’t let them say that. You did it at Burnley the other day.”

Indeed he did. Mane scored a screamer with his left foot against Burnley on New Years Day and Oxlade-Chamberlain was spot on to suggest it wasn’t a lucky strike.

And it seems as though everyone is loving the England international right now.

After the game, Klopp spoke very highly of Oxlade-Chamberlain by saying: "If you ask me who is better - the footballer or the person - then I have to think about it."
