Swiss professional tennis star Belinda Bencic registered a sensational win over two-time Australian Open finalist Venus Williams with the scoreline 6-3, 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena earlier today.

Bencic began the current season securing the Hopman Cup alongside Roger Federer for Switzerland and continued in the same form in the first Grand Slam event of the calendar year.

During the aftermath of the contest, the world number 78 disclosed that compatriot Federer gave some invaluable advice which guided her to the epic win in Melbourne.

Asked if she had the chance to interact with the Swiss maestro ahead of the match, the 20-year-old said: “Yeah, little bit. I’m going to reveal all the tactics now. No, just to stay point for point focused, to enjoy it. Not to be worried about the sun.

“Today was raining, but normally the sun is right in your eyes in that time. About that, as well. He has experience on that court.”

Bencic revealed that she has been a keen admirer of the reigning Australian Open champion and the experience during the Hopman Cup earlier this month was a huge learning curve for her.

She added: “I think all the week [at the Hopman Cup] it was so great learning from him on the court or off the court.”

Bencic further gave a brief insight about how Federer conducts himself around his team and the tactics, alongside maintaining both physical and mental stability to compete among the elites, which makes him one of the greatest of all time.

“Even now, I think it’s amazing he’s giving me advice, trying to give me tips, help me, like, looking how I’m doing. That feels great,” continued the Swiss youngster.

“I really admire about him that before the match in the locker room he’s so relaxed, being funny with his team, or even with everyone. Then on court, he’s so focused. I think that’s the main thing I want to learn from him.

“Yeah, even off the court, a normal, humble person, yeah, really happy and trying to give advice and help also someone like me. I think that makes him pretty special.”

She admitted that she was in contact with the 36-year-old after her remarkable victory and revealed Federer was pleased with her performance.

“I saw him after the match really short. Yeah, he was very happy for me. I was happy to see him. But we didn’t talk about the match,” Bencic concluded.

Federer’s parents were in attendance during Bencic’s clash with Williams and had the first-hand experience of witnessing the action.

After the first round win, Bencic now aims to continue her surge as the tournament progresses Down Under.
