Luis Suarez has enjoyed a plethora of highs and lows in his footballing career.

The Uruguayan is undoubtedly a genius with the ball at his feet, but his remarkable footballing talent has been overshadowed by a number of controversies that have tarnished his legacy.

Not only has Suarez been accused of being a 'diver' in his career, the former Liverpool player has also hit the headlines for more severe reasons: such as when he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra in 2011.

And he has also been found guilty of biting opposing players on three separate occasions: Ottman Bakkal in 2010, Branislav Ivanovic in 2013 and Giorgio Chiellini in 2014.

Such antics mean that after his retirement he will probably be known more so for his poor behaviour on the pitch rather than his for his extraordinary footballing ability.

SUAREZ REVEALS WHAT HE THOUGHT AFTER CHIELLINI BITE

The most high profile of his controversies was perhaps his bite on Giorgio Chiellini, which occurred during a World Cup game between Uruguay and Italy in 2014.

The 30-year-old has previously not opened up about the incident, but he has now revealed that he thought his actions that day may have ruined any chance of a dream move to Barcelona.

Speaking to Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique for The Players' Tribune, Suarez said: "After that - after I did it - I realised immediately.

"We score our goal a few minutes after, I think it’s about 10 minutes after when [Diego] Godín scores, and I don’t celebrate it as much as I usually would - the way everyone else celebrated it - because I was already thinking about the aftermath."

After Pique asks whether he thought the incident would cause his Barcelona move to fall through, Suarez replied: "Yes, yes.

"Because it was everything - in addition to thinking about the World Cup, and being able to fulfil my dream to come here to Barça - everything had gone overboard for me."

SUAREZ GRATEFUL TO BARCELONA

After being kicked out of the World Cup, Suarez then revealed how he cried when Barcelona informed him that they still wanted to sign him.

"Before they kicked me out of the World Cup that’s when I spoke with Zubi [Andoni Zubizarreta Urreta], and the president, and they told me to be calm because Barça still wanted me and … and I have no problem saying it, I cried.

"Because, they were accepting, and me going through what I did in that moment, and with the shit I had caused, it was complicated to trust in me. Truth is, Barça has been so good to me, and I will always be very grateful for that."
