A UFC division is once again being held hostage by Conor McGregor, and UFC President Dana White is prepared to move on without his star Irish fighter.

McGregor is currently the 155-pound champion of the world within the UFC and hasn't fought since winning the title back in November of 2016. He knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their main event meeting at UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden.

Soon after the win McGregor announced he would be taking time off to enjoy the birth of his first child, and also signed on to participate in a huge exhibition boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather in August of 2017.

McGregor was unsuccessful in his bid against "Money" but made one of the biggest paychecks he'll ever see in his life for the event.

Since his hiatus from the UFC, Tony Ferguson has won the interim lightweight title and Khabib Nurmagomedov has solidified himself as a top contender within the division.

Rumor has it that a match-up between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov could be in the works for the interim title, but in a recent interview after last night's (Sun. January 14, 2018) UFC St. Louis event UFC President Dana White laid out his plans for the 155-pound division.

White revealed McGregor wants to return around September, and if that's the case he'll be stripped of the title and Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov, which is being worked on, will be for the actual lightweight title (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Conor has said he’s thinking about coming back in September,” White said. “If he comes back in September, that’s almost two years - that can’t happen. It’s not fair to everybody else.

"Love Conor, respect Conor, love everything that he’s done for this company, everybody knows that, I say it all the time. The belt would have to move on.

“You do Khabib vs. Tony, we’re working on that fight now. If and when Conor comes back, he would get the first crack at the title.”

What are your thoughts on White saying that McGregor doesn't want to fight again until September? Do you think that the current UFC lightweight champion will wait that long before returning to the Octagon? And will the UFC strip him of the 155-pound title if he does wait that long?
