Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial starred as Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 win over Stoke City last night. The £89 million man joined Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane at the top of the Premier League’s assists table with his eighth and ninth of the campaign.Pogba pulled the strings in a performance that reflected his price tag.Manchester City probably won’t have any concerns about their lead at the top of the table being cut to 12 points - indeed, Jose Mourinho admitted that the result “doesn’t change anything” in Man United’s pursuit of their neighbours - but there was plenty for the Portuguese coach to be pleased with.Pogba may have been the man of the match but another player who caught the eye was Martial.

Carragher gives his opinion on Martial

The 22-year-old scored his eighth league goal of the campaign and played with the drive that’s often been lacking during his time at Old Trafford.

Yet he didn’t do enough to convince Jamie Carragher, who admitted on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football that the possible arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal is bad news for Martial.

“So often you say you want more from Martial,” the former Liverpool defender said.

“You see the ability, the quality that he has and if anyone in this team is under more pressure with the news of Alexis Sanchez supposedly coming… it’s possibly, not the end, he’ll still be part of the squad, but it’ll be difficult for him going forward if Sanchez came.

“This is a player who came to Manchester United a couple of years ago and you were thinking he was going to be a world beater. It just hasn’t happened for him.

Carragher also believes Mourinho is running out of patience with the 22-year-old.

“I think Jose Mourinho has probably run out of patience," he added. "He’s come out of nowhere to get Sanchez who’s come on the market and he’s said, “I want more from this player, it’s not enough.’

“It’s probably not about ability with Sanchez. With [Martial], the way Sanchez plays, that energy, that intensity.

“I’ve played with similar players in the dressing room and sometimes you just want to give them a little smack, or you actually shake him before he goes out.”

Man United fans react

Needless to sit, Carragher’s comments didn’t go down well with Man United supporters.
