Sunderland striker Darren Bent dented former club Tottenham's Champions League hopes despite missing two penalties in his side's 3-1 win.

The £10million man scored after just 34 seconds and then converted a 29th-minute spot-kick, although he was then denied twice from 12 yards by keeper Heurelho Gomes either side of half-time.

Substitute Peter Crouch pulled one back for the visitors with 18 minutes remaining, but Bolo Zenden's stunning 86th-minute volley saw Spurs' run of five successive Barclays Premier League wins come to an end.
