Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has shared his thoughts on Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech following his costly mistake away at Bournemouth

The veteran Czech goalkeeper was certainly at fault for Callum Wilson's equaliser in Sunday's shock 2-1 defeat at Dean Court.

Cech admitted that he "should have done better" but claimed Arsenal were "unlucky" to lose.

“Obviously the first one I’m disappointed with because I thought I was going to cut the cross on time,” he said. “Wilson arrived faster in front of me. It’s a matter of split seconds but I think I should have done better on that.

“The second one had an element of luck. It was a good long ball behind but it was everybody’s ball and it fell right in front of the player and he managed to shoot it very hard and squeeze it through my body.

“In that one, we were a bit unlucky. They rode their luck, they worked very hard all day and in the end, they got a big reward.”

Arsenal are now eight points behind fourth placed Chelsea and look set to lose top scorer Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

Lineker gives his honest thoughts on Cech

The fans on Highbury & Heels criticised the former Chelsea goalkeeper and asked Lineker to share his opinion on the 35-year-old stopper.

"I disagree with you a little bit," said Lineker on the Arsenal fan podcast. "I think Petr Cech is a terrific goalkeeper. He makes the odd mistake, perhaps he shouldn't have left his line yesterday but he's also been brilliant on occasions.

"Cech made some excellent saves in the game I watched against Chelsea, as did Courtois.

"He's a top goalkeeper, exceptionally experienced.

"He's not helped if he'd got less confidence in his back four. The back four has been chopped and changed this season. Sometimes it's three at the back, sometimes it's the regular four.

"It doesn't help if you've got different individuals in front of you so perhaps the issue is the whole defensive side of the team.

"If you're not confident in your own defenders, then that makes it difficult for anybody between the posts."

Cech has been heavily criticised by Arsenal fans this season but Lineker clearly believes Arsene Wenger should keep faith with him.

They mist get back to winning ways when they host Crystal Palace on Saturday.
