Neymar's stunning hat-trick goal for PSG leaves football fans in awe

There was an awful lot of criticism about Neymar’s world-record £198m move from Barcelona to Paris-Saint Germain, but he is proving to be worth every penny for the Parisiens.

The Brazilian has been in stupendous form since moving to the French capital, managing an incredible 24 goals and 16 assists in 23 games in all competitions.

Alongside Kylian Mbappé, the other notable summer arrival who PSG will sign permanently for £165m after the end of the season, and Edinson Cavani, Neymar has inspired his side to an 11-point lead in Ligue 1.

Their red-hot form has also seen them favourites for their Champions League last-16 tie with Real Madrid, although the latter’s horrendous run has helped that no doubt.

And while all the talk has been about Manchester City completing an unprecedented quadruple, PSG will be fancying their chances of doing it themselves, as they are in the semi-final of the Coupe de la Ligue, and are still in the French Cup.

Last night, the French league leaders took another stride towards a record-breaking season with an 8-0 thumping of Dijon, in which Edinson Cavani made his own piece of history.

The Uruguayan joined Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the club’s joint-top scorer on 156 goals, heading in Angel Di Maria’s cross in the first-half, after the Argentine had bagged two himself.

Mbappé also got on the scoresheet, but trust Neymar to steal Cavani’s limelight, getting four goals and his first hat-trick for PSG, as well as setting up two, as he continues to find Ligue 1 as easy as a stroll in the park.

And his hat-trick goal was quite simply breath-taking.

There are very few footballers in history who have the ability to dribble with such composure, beat several players, and finish expertly to complete a hat-trick like that.

Neymar breezed past four men like they weren’t even there, before dancing around another and guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

He added a penalty shortly after to complete the rout for the Parisiens, and Twitter was mightily impressed with the former Barcelona star.

Unfortunately, the quality of the league will mean Neymar’s achievements are somewhat underplayed, but that goal would be immensely difficult to score against any opposition.

With technical ability like that, and PSG threatening to take over Europe, it is no wonder why so many people think this could finally be Neymar’s year to win the Ballon d’Or.
