Vale keep season alive: Match Review

Rampant Port Vale kept alive their hopes of a late assault on the play-offs and dented Dagenham's promotion ambitions with a 3-1 win at Vale Park.

Both sides had threatened during a high tempo start to an entertaining contest before the visitors drew first blood in the 14th minute.

Paul Benson outstripped Gareth Owen to cross from the right and Marlon Pack headed home from six yards, with the ball scraping the underside of the bar on its way in.

Only Craig Davies will know how he failed to equalise in the 25th minute when he scuffed his shot wide of an open goal from Lewis Haldane's low cross.

But Vale deservedly drew level three minutes before the interval when Haldane found space to clip in a close range shot after Lee Collins crossed from the left.

Chris Martin made a fine save with his feet after Dagenham's Josh Scott burst clear in the 68th minute and Vale capitalised six minutes later.

Davies whipped over a low cross from the right and substitute Rob Taylor was unmarked as he placed a cool finish past Tony Roberts.

It was all over four minutes later when Davies capped a fine individual display with a right-foot finish from point blank range after Marc Richards headed the ball into his path.
