Samoa Joe just can’t seem to catch a break. Just when it looks like he’s on the cusp of something great he suffers a setback and that seems to be the case right now too.

Recently, the former two-time NXT Champion suffered a foot injury which means that he won’t be able to make an impact in the Royal Rumble, even though the plan was probably never for him to win.

INJURY

However, Joe did drop a huge hint that he was targeting the 16-time world champion in the Rumble match itself when he announced his intention to enter the match and target Cena, following on from speculation for over a year now which has suggested Joe and Cena will meet at WrestleMania.

Obviously, that didn’t happen last year as Cena teamed up with Nikki Bella to defeat The Miz and Maryse, while Samoa Joe was left off the card where he played a part in the rivalry between Triple H and Seth Rollins.

It looks like Joe is going to miss out on Cena yet again because of his foot injury which is said to be worse than originally anticipated and is expected to return at the end of March and now Ringside News is reporting that an angle involving Joe will not take place.

The source is claiming that the seed Joe planted when calling out Cena was actually supposed to lead to an angle in the Rumble match where Joe and Cena come face to face. Whatever was supposed to be featured in the angle, though, is unclear and now won’t happen because of the foot injury.

RUMBLE REPLACEMENT

Instead, the spot will be given to Elias. So, whatever it was that Joe was going to be doing opposite Cena, Elias will now be doing following on from his brilliant altercation with the leader of the Cenation on the Christmas edition of Monday Night RAW.

Although WWE could easily have Joe and Cena meet later to do whatever was planned, it looks more and more unlikely that this will be the case.

Cena’s schedule must also be taken into account. However, it’s the speculated WrestleMania 34 match against The Undertaker which means WWE could scrap the Samoa Joe feud altogether.
