Alexis Sanchez will be confirmed as a Manchester United player over the next few days, provided he passes a routine medical. The Chile international has been granted permission by Arsenal to complete his move to United after Henrikh Mkhitaryan agreed to move in the opposite direction. It’s a straight swap deal which appears to suit all parties. However, there are many people who have questioned Sanchez’s decision to join the Red Devils.Everything was in place for the world-class South American to complete a move to Manchester City - but the 29-year-old has, instead, opted to sign for the Red Devils, who have offered the player more money than City were prepared to fork out. It’s still unclear exactly how much money Sanchez will earn at Old Trafford but he’s poised to pocket anything between £400,000 and £500,000-a-week. Staggering figures that will make him the Premier League’s highest-paid player.

Michael Owen drops honest opinion about Sanchez

Former United striker Michael Owen has now stated his belief that United is the wrong move for Sanchez.

Here’s what he’s said…

“There is clearly one major reason why Alexis Sanchez is choosing Manchester United over Manchester City,” Owen wrote in his latest Daily Mail column. “Naturally, as a footballer he wants to maximise his earnings but as an attacking player, I’m still surprised he would opt for Jose Mourinho over Pep Guardiola.

“I wouldn’t blame Sanchez for taking what is said to be £400,000 a week. The talk of him being a mercenary is well off the mark. He’s just a footballer making his living at the market rate but on pure footballing grounds, United could never have been his first choice.”

He continued: “As an attacking player, he must know that he is going to be asked to temper his game, certainly compared to the season he had under Guardiola at Barcelona or his time under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

“As a striker, if I wanted to improve my game and get to another level, I’d want to play for one of those managers and especially Guardiola.

“Maybe if I was a defender, I might prefer Mourinho but at United Sanchez will eventually conform to what Mourinho wants and that will restrict his performance. I don’t think a team like United should play that way.”

United fans react badly

Perhaps unsurprisingly, United fans aren’t happy with Owen’s comments about Sanchez.
