UFC 220 took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts last night, and both champions, Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, managed to retain their respective championships inside the Octagon on the night. Now Dana White wants the two to meet in a super fight.

Both feature fights on the UFC 220 card on Saturday night ended with the champions managed to retain their titles, as Daniel Cormier retained the UFC Light Heavyweight title with a second-round TKO over Volkan Oezdemir, while Stipe Miocic retained the UFC Heavyweight title via a unanimous decision win (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) over Francis Ngannou.

After dominant displays inside the Octagon at the TD Garden, the UFC president revealed after the event that he now wants to pip the UFC Light Heavyweight champion and UFC Heavyweight Champion against one another at heavyweight in a UFC super fight.

White said after UFC 220, via Bloody Elbow: “I was just talking to [Cormier]. I don’t see why he couldn’t fight at heavyweight. If he thinks that Cain might come back, then if he won the belt, he could give it up. But either way, it’s a good fight. With all the defenses he has, Stipe just broke the record for most defenses, so it’s a fun fight. ... I think that’s a fight people would like to see.”

However, both Miocic and Cormier were noncommittal to any future matchup after their title defenses, as both want to spend time with their families. Miocic announced in his post-fight interview his wife is having a baby, while Cormier did not say what is next for him.

Miocic said at his post-fight press conference when asked if he’d be willing to face Cormier: “Right now, I don’t care. I just got done with fighting 45 minutes or one hour ago, whatever it was. 25 hard minutes with a tough dude. I don’t really care what’s going on right now.”

DC noted that the biggest roadblock to a bout against Miocic is former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez, as his longtime training partner is planning an eventual comeback. Cormier dropped down to 205 pounds years ago in order not to interfere with Velasquez’s career.

Cormier said at his post-fight press conference about possibly facing Miocic in the future: “I haven’t really thought about it. It’s hard for me now, because Cain’s in the gym more. Cain’s in the gym now getting back, preparing to do what he does best.

“If he’s getting prepared to get that belt back, then I have nothing for that division. That’ll never change.”

Both Miocic and Cormier had a strong outing at UFC 220, but it doesn't look like the two will be meeting for a fight inside the Octagon anytime soon despite White's wishes.
