Manchester City’s pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple lives on after Pep Guardiola’s side booked their place in the final of the Carabao Cup last night. The Citizens secured a 5-3 aggregate victory over Bristol City following a 3-2 win at Ashton Gate, Kevin De Bruyne scoring a late winner after the hosts recovered from 2-0 down.Guardiola and his players will now sit down and await the outcome of today’s other semi-final between Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of next month’s final.Guardiola will be fully aware that his players cannot afford a similar second-half collapse that allowed Bristol City to score twice if they are to defeat either of their Premier League rivals at Wembley Stadium.Two-nil up through goals from Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero, Lee Johnson’s side got back in it through Marlon Pack and Aden Flint’s goals.Thankfully for Guardiola, De Bruyne ensured there would be no fairytale ending for the Championship club when he turned home Sane’s cross in the sixth minute of injury time. But fair play to Bristol City, who showed great courage in the first leg and did so again in the return fixture.

De Bruyne's post-match comments caused a stir

Man City sent a class tweet to their opponents at full-time, wishing them good luck for the rest of the season, but football fans aren’t quite so happy with what De Bruyne had to say after the match.

De Bruyne was dismissive of Bristol City’s threat, saying they had to resort to long balls to get back into the match and that Man City should have won by three or four goals.

“We played a very good game. They had two chances with the long balls and it's a little bit of a shame that they scored two times but today we were very good," De Bruyne told Sky Sports, per Man City's website.

"We were very good and we didn't give them opportunities. We scored in the last minute but I think we should have won by three or four."

"We came here, we knew the crowd would be up for it but we managed to keep them quiet. We controlled the game very well and especially in the first half they didn't get any chances.

"After the 2-0 they were going to play long balls and in the end I think we deserved to go to Wembley."

An appreciative nod towards Johnson’s side and their superb effort would have been nice.
