Ukrainian cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk seemingly called out heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua yesterday on Sky Sports.

The Ukrainian 31-year-old was speaking exclusively to Sky Sports ahead of his World Boxing Super Series semi-final bout against Mairis Briedis in Riga on Saturday night.

Usyk does have some heavyweight pedigree, however.

He has held the WBO junior heavyweight title since 2016, he also won gold medals in both the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympics, at heavyweight level.

Whilst he is the number one seed for the World Boxing Super Series he has not been thinking past the bout against Briedis on Saturday, however, he has not ruled out a future fight against Joshua.

"I will but let's wait for a while,” the 31-year-old told Sky Sports.

"I will move up to heavyweight and show them all how good I am.

“I think you can see yourself, I will fight him (Joshua). Not yet though.

"But it is a question everybody keeps asking me, so once we go face to face, we will find out. It will be good.

"First of all, I like Britain because that is where boxing was born.

“The fans over there still follow me and watch me, so I will always try and show them my best."

Truth be told, a bout between the pair would be fascinating, Anthony Joshua’s fight record currently stands at 20-0-KO20.

Usyk’s fight record is also impressive and stands at 13-0-KO11. The pair are both over six foot, though, the 31-year-old Ukrainian loses three inches against the giant Joshua.

If you are unfamiliar with Usyk, you can see what he does in the video package below.

Whilst he has been in London, the 31-year-old Ukrainian has been sparring with London based boxers Isaac Chamberlain and Mikael Lawal ahead of his semi-final bout with Breidis, he has said that Latvian will be his toughest fight in his career.

"I do think Briedis will be the toughest opponent I have faced in my professional career,

"He is 23-0, he's a cruiserweight and he can punch and that makes anyone dangerous. You are going to see my boxing, everything I do week, once I am in there with him.

"We always prepare to go the full 12 rounds but I will try my best and show the skills I have been working on, and I want to show what I can do. You will see."
