Sergio Aguero's time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City has certainly been quite strange.

The prolific striker - who is the club's all-time top goal scorer - has consistently found the net under the Spanish manager, but has had a lot of doubt hanging over the longevity of his career in Manchester.

When Gabriel Jesus arrived in January last season, it appeared Guardiola preferred a forward line containing the young Brazilian, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

Had Jesus not picked up a serious foot injury in 2016/17 against Bournemouth, Aguero might have been off in the summer.

He stayed and has been finding the net once again this season, with 16 Premier League goals to his name, including a hat-trick against Newcastle on Sunday.

Nevertheless, there is still that theory that Aguero could leave City sooner rather than later and Guardiola may have an interesting proposition with regards to the City legend.

THE AGUERO SITUATION

According to The Sun, his former club Atletico Madrid are keen on bringing him back to the Spanish capital.

Now, Guardiola has stated he wants to keep Aguero but, he see's their interest as a potential gateway into signing Antoine Griezmann, a player he rates very highly.

A source said: "Atletico have contacted Sergio's representatives to see if there is any chance of getting him back.

"Pep doesn't want him to go, but has been looking at bringing in Antoine Griezmann, so there could be something there.

"Pep is a massive fan of him and his clause at the end of the season is a bargain for a player of his quality.

"City have made discreet enquiries over Griezmann in the past, so there is the interest from both sides."

WOULD THE DEAL BENEFIT BOTH CLUBS?

So, there is potential for City to offer Aguero plus £25m in cash to activate Griezmann's release clause.

It would be a huge deal, one which could benefit both parties.

City get a younger and more versatile forward, while Atletico get the chance to pair up Aguero and Diego Costa up top, a mouth-watering prospect on paper.
