Real Madrid’s 7-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna certainly was an eventful one for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar scored a brace and ended the game a bloody mess after receiving a nasty kick to the face from Fabian Schar.

Photos of Ronaldo using a doctor’s phone to check the damage quickly went viral and he’s appeared in training this week with a huge black eye and stitches.

The incident came as Ronaldo scored his second goal and he’ll be mightily pleased that, for all his efforts, he at least got to celebrate another goal.

It was just the sixth time that the 32-year-old has scored in La Liga this season and there are 16 players who have scored more goals than him in 2017-18.

Ronaldo has scored nine goals in the Champions League, which helps to boost his numbers, but there has been a noticeable drop in his level of performance this season.

Indeed, it could be this season that forces many to side with Lionel Messi in the battle of football’s greatest players.

Real Madrid are currently fourth in the league, 19 points behind Barcelona.

There seems no way back for them domestically and the situation in Europe isn’t any easier; Zinedine Zidane’s side take on Paris Saint-Germain in the round-of-16 next.

What Ramos did to turn Ronaldo's form around

It’s fair to say things aren’t very rosy in Madrid right now. But Real have decided to act in an attempt to recover their season, and to ensure that they get the best Ronaldo for the second half of the season.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Sergio Ramos called a meeting with Real’s senior players to discuss the problems Ronaldo has been going through.

This came after Ramos spoke to Real president Florentino Perez, who asked the Spaniard to lead an inquest into Real and Ronaldo's form.

Ramos and Ronaldo gathered with Luka Modric and Marcelo for a dinner “that reiterated the club hierarchy's respect and gratitude for the Portuguese winger in particular.”

So, basically, Ronaldo just needed to be reminded that he is the king at the Bernabeu.

The meeting, which wasn’t the first of its nature, was a success, Marca’s report adds.

This was evidenced not just by Ronaldo’s brace against Deportivo but by Marcelo’s impressive display, too.

Now would be the perfect time for Los Blancos to hit form as they prepare to take on PSG in the Champions League.
