Having been overlooked for the All-Star team in the last two seasons, Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has finally secured another selection this year.

With his team enjoying a winning record at 26-22, Lillard was rewarded with his third appearance at the showpiece event next month in Los Angeles.

The Blazers star has been outspoken in the past about his omissions and that possibly played a part in the coach's decision to pick him as a reserve.

That frustration has been felt by other players this year as the likes of Chris Paul, Lou Williams, Andre Drummond and Paul George have all missed out.

Russell Westbrook called the decision to leave out George "outrageous" and he appeared to take a slight at Lillard by making reference to his complaints in the past.

"Unbelievable. I think it's just outrageous, in my opinion," Westbrook said, per ESPN. "I don't know who else made the team but got four people from one team, you've got guys complaining about getting snubbed until they get in, you've got guys just talking about it all the time."

Lillard was asked about Westbrook's comments before Portland'a clash with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night and he called it "disappointing".

"I respect Russ a lot, so it was kind of disappointing to see him say that," Lillard said, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell.

"Because he's played against me, he's played against our team, he knows what I've accomplished. Not just this year, but over my career.

"So it was a little bit disappointing, but I know that I earned my spot this year. And that's pretty much what it is: I earned my spot."

The 27-year-old's numbers this season back up his words as he's certainly there on merit. He's having another impressive campaign with averages of 25.3 points, 6.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.

On top of that, the Blazers are once again in playoff contention and have a good chance of keeping up Lillard's record of securing a postseason berth in every season since he entered the league.

The All-NBA guard also let his play do the talking as he produced a terrific display against the Timberwolves to lead his team to a 123-114 win by dropping 31 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

Lillard was asked after the game if Westbrook's words had given him extra motivation to go out and perform the way he did.

"I really don't care what he said," Lillard said. "His word is not law. So it is what it is. The last thing I'll say about that is the two years that I didn't make it I said that every guy that did make it was deserving because they were.

"I said, I just feel like I should've been there, but that was my way of handling it. If that's how he feel, then that's how he feel. You don't have no loyalty towards me."
