This January transfer window has been more exciting than usual, it's fair to say.Liverpool made a big splash to open up proceedings when they signed Virgil van Dijk for £75 million and then they sold star man Philippe Coutinho for £145 million.Next, it's Arsenal's turn.Alexis Sanchez's long-running contract saga was finally put to bed when the Chilean moved to Manchester United in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.Theo Walcott has also departed the club for £20 million, so boss Arsene Wenger needs to strengthen his ranks and he needs to do it fast.Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is said to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium for around £50 million, but Chelsea are looking for a striker, too.Their need for a target man has led to names like Ashley Barnes and Peter Crouch being linked with the club, but it seems as though former Manchester City man Edin Dzeko is on the verge of arriving from Roma for around £44 million. However, one man both Arsenal and Chelsea would like to sign is Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez - and the Morrocan was in attendance as both sides battled it out in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Although he was sitting with teammate Islam Slimani - who has also been linked with Chelsea - speculation immediately rose that Mahrez was there to watch his new club - whoever that was.

It turns out, according to Sky Sports, the real reason Mahrez was at the Emirates Stadium was to watch his good friend and former teammate N'Golo Kante.

Arsenal fans serenaded Mahrez in chants of "Riyad is a Gooner" as the winger departed north London and, to be fair, his future has been scrutinised for several transfer windows now.

The Foxes are said to demand anywhere between £40-50 million for his services and the 26-year-old has made his desire to go and play for a top club very, very clear.

However, it doesn't appear as though the 2015-16 Premier League winner is on the verge of sealing a move just yet and Arsenal appear to be concentrating on their pursuit of Aubameyang above all else.
