The WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders takes on Martin Murray at The O2 in April, but he's already looking ahead middleweight showdown against Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez.

Saunders made himself known to the wider boxing world when he defeated David Lemieux in his hometown in Laval, Canada last month to retain the WBO middleweight title, a fight which he outclassed his opponent completely despite many pundits expecting him to lose.

Now, he wants to make the most of what might be the final few years he has at the top of his boxing game, with his next fight being against a fellow Brit in Murray on April 14 at The O2 Arena in London.

The 28-year-old said, via Box Nation: "It's about hard work now, not going fat, not ballooning up. I'm 28, I've got two years to do what I want to do and be at the pinnacle of my career.

"When I get older, am I going to live like this and be as sharp as I am? In my personal opinion I don't think I am. I want to make the most out of it while I've got my youth and feeling fresh. I'm happy where I'm at at the minute in my life, and also in my boxing career."

Before he leaves his prime years, Saunders wants to have a fight against the best the middleweight division has to offer, which means a clash against either Golovkin or Canelo. However, he believes their respective teams are standing in the way of either of these fights happening, as they are 'cash cows'.

The British boxer said: "I'm looking forward to getting my fight head back on. It's no good beating Lemieux in that sort of fashion then coming back and looking average. I think the Canada performance was good in one way and bad in another, because it was good for my stock but bad for business.

"Golovkin and Canelo aren't scared, but the people looking after them [are]...they're their cash cows. They don't want someone coming in and giving them a hard night's work - or even beating them - because that's just putting a spanner in the works."

Hopefully, Saunders is able to face either Golovkin or Canelo soon, as that would be a true test to see how good the WBO World Middleweight Champion actually is.
