Manchester United and Chelsea have been dealt a blow in the race to sign Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez after he announced he is staying at Ajax.
Both Premier League sides were reported to be monitoring the striker’s situation but it appears their hopes of signing the talented striker have now all but gone.
Suarez told Dutch channel AT5, "I'm enjoying myself at Ajax. I have not renewed my contract for nothing. I am here to stay."
Sir Alex Ferguson was reported to be looking to offload Dimitar Berbatov in the summer after failing to make an impact at Old Trafford since his arrival in 2008.
It was thought that Ajax striker was a potential summer target for Ferguson, who is looking to bolster his striker force and lessen the burden put on Wayne Rooney.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old in the past and there were rumours that that Suarez had agreed personal terms with the Blues earlier in the season.
The Uruguayan international has scored 75 goals in just 94 appearances for Ajax and has also represented his country 29 times.
