One UFC star is not happy about this matchup.

The UFC made a big fight announcement on Friday night, which is something that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier said would not happen due to the fact that he doesn’t believe he can beat former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.

That news is that Cormier will fight UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. They will also coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

As seen in the co-main event of UFC 220 pay-per-view event at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, Cormier was able to score a TKO victory over title contender Volkan Oezdemir.

Although DC wanted this bout, there were many fans who were also arguing that number one-ranked light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson is the more deserving challenger.

If you recall, the two fighters already faced each other at UFC 192 in 2015, where Cormier won via split decision.

Title contender Francis Ngannou suffered a decision loss to the UFC heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC 220.

UFC 226 is set to take place on July 7th, 2018 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

As of this writing, there’s no other bout that has been announced for this event.

Gustafsson expressed his frustration this morning about the fight being made by the MMA promotion by writing the following on his official Instagram account:

“@dc_mma is fighting stipe?! Well stop run and fight me! Don’t even think about giving the fight to anyone else! I have been quite.

had a tough time after my last fight (injury etc.) but I’m next in line and the dc fight is mine! Come on, let’s have a another dance for the fans! @ufc”

Before UFC 220, Cormier went on record in a recent interview by stating that if he were to make a weight class change then he would need him and his team to come up with a solid plan in order to compete with the world-class athletes who are in the heavyweight division.
