On Friday night, DeMarcus Cousins suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will therefore miss the remainder of the 2017-2018 season.Averaging a remarkable 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists over 36.2 minutes per contest for the 27-21 New Orleans Pelicans this season, Cousins has been Anthony Davis' co-superstar and even earned a starting spot in the upcoming All-Star game. Therefore, not only did the catastrophic injury negatively affect Cousins and the Pelicans franchise, but it also created a void in the upcoming exhibition involving the league's top stars. For one lucky player who fell just short of earning an All-Star bid, the injury opened up an opportunity.Who would be added to captain LeBron's team now that Boogie was out? It wasn't up to King James, but NBA commissioner Adam Silver made a logical selection. According to Royce Young of ESPN, Silver's decision was made for a simple reason: the player obtained the highest number of votes from head coaches among Western Conference players not selected as a reserve.Paul George, who is widely considered as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, will take Cousins' place and has been named to his fifth All-Star game. When asked to react to the news on Saturday, George admitted it was bittersweet."Obviously, I would have liked to make it under better circumstance -- because of an injury I got in," George said, per Royce Young of ESPN. "But needless to say, I'm happy for this to be my fifth and go alongside Russ [Westbrook] and, you know, be a part of this franchise to hold it down for the Thunder. I'm grateful for this opportunity."Late Saturday night, George made it obvious that he's excited about receiving the honor, responding to LeBron's tweet about his team.

Other Western Conference snubs included Chris Paul and Lou Williams. But, the league's head coaches believed that George deserved the spot more. PG-13 is averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After learning that George was initially snubbed, Russell Westbrook famously rushed to his defense.

"I don't know who else made the team, but got four people from one team, you've got guys complaining about getting snubbed until they get in, you've got guys just talking about it all the time," Westbrook said at the time. "But the guys that deserve it -- should be in -- are not. I just don't understand. Doesn't make any sense."

It appears as though there's no reason for Westbrook to be upset anymore now that George will be suiting up alongside him on James' squad.
