It's been a strange month for Chelsea off the field, having been linked with a whole host of strikers from Edin Dzeko and Olivier Giroud to Ashley Barnes and Peter Crouch.

On the pitch, they endured a three-match goalless streak which ended in the 4-0 win at Brighton, only to crash out of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal a few days later.

One thing that has become abundantly clear this season is that the reigning Premier League champions' best player is Eden Hazard.

The skilful 27-year-old, who has scored 12 goals so far this term (as many as club-record signing Alvaro Morata), is almost always the man to provide Chelsea with a moment of inspiration.

That said, one Premier League club is targeting a stunning British-record move for Hazard in a deal which would send shockwaves around European football.

PL giants set to bid for Hazard

The Mirror have reported that Manchester City are ready to launch a huge £150 million summer bid for Hazard, who Pep Guardiola has identified as his number one transfer target.

After refusing to break City's wage structure for new Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez, Pep is now ready to begin competing for the world's most elite stars once again.

Man City believe Hazard would represent better value than Alexis and have been given hope of a British-record transfer after observing the Belgian's contract situation at rivals Chelsea.

At the end of the season, Hazard will have two years left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, but City wont hesitate to rival Spanish and European champions Real Madrid for his signature.

Given their La Liga struggles this campaign, it would be no surprise to see Madrid make several marquee signings this summer, with Hazard, Neymar and Harry Kane all on their radar.

Pep to splash even more cash?

Whilst Guardiola has already splashed around £400 million at City, a lot of that has been spent on revamping what was an ageing squad.

For example, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy arrived for a combined £102 million last summer, but that followed the exits of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Aleksandr Kolarov and Gael Clichy.

Hazard joined Chelsea from French club Lille back in 2012 for a reported £32 million and has scored 84 goals in 280 matches, winning the League Cup, Europa League and two league titles.

He's undoubtedly world-class, but given their 12-point lead and the form of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane (both of whom are younger than Hazard), one could argue City don't need him.
